FLYNN, Peter James

Sept 13, 1925 - Dec 9, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Flynn announce his passing on December 9th at the Leisure World Caregiving Centre in Richmond Hill at the age of 89.
Predeceased on August 30th, 2014 by his loving wife and partner for 64 years, June (nee Broker), he will be forever loved and missed by his sister Winnie Ashman of Ottawa, his sons Bruce of Burlington, Brian (Robin) of Winnipeg and Craig (Debbie) of Waterdown as well as by his daughter Janice (Tal) of Richmond Hill. Grandad Pete will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Michael (Sarah), Christine (Hentley), Sean, Jessica, David, Dan (Amanda), Jamie, Steve, Kimberley, Adam, Megan and Zachary, and great grandchildren Kaiden, Kenzie and Payton.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Peter was the youngest son of five children to the late Arthur Edward and Maude Louise Flynn and brother to the late Jack Flynn, Jill Cameron and Pat MacKeigan. Pete was nine when his mother died and he was raised by his father and older sister Jill. In his late teens he spent several summers in bush/mining camps in Quebec and Labrador doing survey work with his father.

He graduated from Dalhousie and Nova Scotia Tech College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as an Executive MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He worked his entire career with Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCO) with positions in Montreal and Stoney Creek and was fortunate enough to go on trips all over the world.

Pete and June loved renting cottages over the years and especially loved the Haliburton area of Ontario. They enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends around the pool at their Burlington residence. They also loved to travel and stay active. In post-retirement years they enjoyed spending winters in Florida and took numerous cruises that went all over the world. Pete loved golf and was a very proud member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club. He particularly enjoyed taking family members there for games of golf or dinners and enjoyed participating in the bridge group. Both Pete and June were active members of the Roseland Park Country Club for social events and playing bridge. Pete was also very proud that he was a Regional Master with the American Contract Bridge League.

A family memorial will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 AM at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home in Burlington. Friends are welcome to join us, to remember and celebrate Dad’s life. Cremation has already taken place with interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
