John Russell Haslehurst
July 23, 1934 - November 20, 2015
His jouney’s just begun
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.

After a 5 year battle with Alzheimer's disease, John passed away peacefully in his 82nd year at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, West 5th Campus. Loved husband of 55 years, he leaves behind his wife, Hilary (nee Thomson), children Andrea, Jonathan (Nataliia), and Paula (David), and beloved grandchildren, Jordan and Benjamin. He will be missed by his older brother William (Bill), sister-in-law Doris, sister-in-law Irma and his nieces Cheryl, and Diane, and nephews Steven, Greg and Kevin. He is predeceased by his parents Anna (nee Moore) and Russ (Benjamin) Haslehurst and his younger brother, Kent.
John will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, his love of music, his passion for his work as a senior leader in healthcare, and his commitment to ensuring patients and families received the best possible care at his hospitals.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Orchard 1 and Harbour North at St. Joseph's for their kind and compassionate care of John over his last months.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by his family.
