<div itemprop="description"> <p> GEORGE FREDERICK ROUND, Ph.D., D.Sc., P.Eng. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> 1932-2012. Passed away at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on January 21, 2012. He will be sadly missed by his family; his children Mark (Kathy) Round, Michael Round (Alix Moon), Barbara Weary, Simon Round (Diane Ivanauskas), Stephanie Round (Andrew MacKillop), his grandchildren Brendon (Laura), Robert (Jerrica), Rachel, Gillian, Christopher, Amanda, his great-grandchildren Ryan, Nathan, Nicholas, and Bentley. He will also be missed by his many close friends and professional colleagues. George was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Jean Round, his brother J. Michael Round and his parents. George gave his life to education, his family and the arts. George was born and raised in Dudley, England and attended the prestigious Dudley Grammar School. He then attended the University of Birmingham and studied chemical engineering graduating with a Ph.D. During the course of his studies he met his future wife, Jean Codling, and they married in 1956. George, Jean and Mark moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1957 where he worked as a Research Officer at the Alberta Research Council until 1967 specializing in fluid dynamics, pipeline and pumping systems design. &nbsp;In 1968 the family moved to Burlington, Ontario and George served as a full professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering until 1995, serving as departmental chairman from 1970-1973. George was an adventurer and world traveller. During the course of his career he was a visiting professor at Cambridge University, Kuwait University, University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Missouri-Columbia.&nbsp; His prodigious work output included over 125 scientific papers, 5 books, and 6 patents. George had both a scientific and artistic mind. A man of many talents he was a rousing orator, a stage actor and director.&nbsp; George worked on numerous theatre productions in Edmonton and in the Burlington-Hamilton area. He was committed to family and thoroughly enjoyed travelling with Jean and time spent with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He will be remembered as a strong contributor to the academic and arts communities and as a beloved family man. A visitation will be held at Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home, 2241 New St, Burlington, on Wednesday January 25, 2012 from 7-9 p.m.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at St. Luke&rsquo;s Anglican Church, 1382 Ontario St, Burlington on Thursday January 26, 2012 at 2 p.m.&nbsp; A reception will follow the service at the parish hall of St. Luke&rsquo;s. &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Luke&rsquo;s Anglican Church would be appreciated. </p> </div>
